Alright people, I've got some news for you Lubbock SONGWRITERS!

Starting tomorrow The Blue Light Live, in the depot district will be starting a new program to reward songwriters who faithfully attend our live performances during songwriter nights.

We will be offering opening acoustic slots at our live music nightclub from 9:00pm-10:00pm for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for our songwriter night attendees.

So, for this week you could potentially open for:

Tuesday: Hogg Maulies
Wednesday: Prophets and Outlaws
Thursday: Midnight River Choir

These offers may eventually extend to Friday/ Saturday or even patio gigs if the participation and enthusiasm is high enough.

To be eligible for the Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday opening slots, arrive at Blue Light on Monday nights between 9:00pm and 10:00pm. At 10:00 pm, The List will be made available - sign up to play that evening, and write the weekday you wish to open beside your name. Play Monday night and if you don't suck and you have enough songs to cover an hour of music, you will be granted the opening slot which you desire. These opening spots are available on a first come first served basis, so be ready to play at 10:00 p.m. every Monday for your chance to open for the band of your choice.

Family Guidance & Outreach Center of Lubbock, a non-profit agency working to prevent child abuse and neglect in Lubbock and surrounding areas. Family Guidance and Outreach Center has touched the lives of more than 120,000 people during our 31-year history. In 2012 alone, they impacted over 21,000 parents and children through our programs and services in the community.

In recognition of April as Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month, Family Guidance & Outreach Center of Lubbock will host The 15th Ann...ual Blue Ribbon Rally Car & Bike Show. Judy Collins has thrilled audiences worldwide with her unique blend of interpretative folksongs and contemporary themes. Her impressive career has spanned more than 50 years. At 13, Judy Collins made her public debut performing Mozart's Concerto for Two Pianos but it was the music of such artists as Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, as well as the traditional songs of the folk revival, that sparked Judy’s love of lyrics. She soon moved away from the classical piano and began her lifelong love with the guitar.

Judy Collins, who will perform at the Texas Teck Allen Theater released her first album, A Maid of Constant Sorrow, at the age of 22 and began a thirty-five year association with Jac Holzman and Elektra Records. She interpreted the songs of fellow artists - particularly the social poets of the time such as Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs and Tom Paxton. Judy was instrumental in bringing other singer-songwriters to a wider audience including poet/musician Leonard Cohen – and musicians Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman.

Judy Collins is also noted for her rendition of Joni Mitchell's “Both Sides Now” on her 1967 album, Wildflowers which has since been entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Winning "Song of the Year” at the 1975 Grammy Awards was Judy's version of “Send in the Clowns,” a ballad written by Stephen Sondheim for the Broadway musical “A Little Night Music.” Judy has continued an impressive musical career with an extensive catalog from every decade throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and up to the present.

On July 27, 2010, Collectors’ Choice Music will reissue (digitally remastered) nine CDs of Collins’ Elektra titles: Fifth Album (1965), In My Life (1966), Whales & Nightingales (1970), True Stories & Other Dreams (1973), Bread & Roses (1976), Running for My Life (1980), Times of Our Lives (1982), Home Again (1984) and Christmas at the Biltmore (1997). These albums contain newly commissioned liner notes by Ritchie Unterberger that include interviews with Collins.

Judy has authored several books, including the inspirational memoir Sanity & Grace, focusing on the death of her only son and the healing process following the tragedy; it speaks to all who have endured the sorrow of losing a loved one before their time. She is also co-director, with Jill Godmillow, of an Academy Award-nominated film about Antonia Brico, the first woman to conduct major symphonies around the world—and Judy's classical piano teacher when she was young.

In 1999, Judy founded her own record label, Wildflower Records - a grass roots artist driven label committedtonurturing fresh talent. The aim of the label is to develop long-term relationships with artists and their representatives in a way that Judy’s own career was nurtured by major labels. A new album has been released by Lubbock Independent Alternative muisc talent Lindsay Boreing.

Amusement Park Recording studio just finished mixing and the album art. The vocal tracks were laid by producer Scott Faris. A music video (as seen on LNO's home videopage) has also been produced by Amusement Park's video division.

"It Hurts So Bad" is another original song written and performed at the Fox and the Hound Pub for the Icon songwriters competition.

As per William Kerns of the A.J. The fourth annual Jessefest, inspired by the late Lubbock guitarist Jesse "Guitar" Taylor, will take place at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Tornado Gallery, 1822 Buddy Holly Ave.

Featured entertainers are Mike Pritchard & the Ogallala Blues Band, Lost Weekend and Sons of the Roadhouse Playboys. Tommy and Charlene Hancock also will make an appearance.

September 27 is first day of three-day Lubbock Music Fest. Some of the plans for the music fest's opening day:

The following people will be inducted at 5:30 p.m. into the West Texas Walk of Fame, near the statue of Buddy Holly located west of the Buddy Holly Center, 1801 Crickets Ave.: the late Jesse â��Guitarâ�� Taylor; Austin-based music producer Lloyd Maines; and Tommy and Charlene (Condray) Hancock, the godfather of West Texas music and his wife.

This will be followed at 6:30 p.m. by a ribbon-cutting for the boyhood home of Cricket Jerry â��J.I. Allison, as the house is re-situated on the grounds of the Buddy Holly Center.

A Crickets concert presently is being planned for 7 p.m. at the Cactus Theater, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave., with the fourth annual Jessefest taking place at 8:30 p.m. in Peggyâ��s garden, adjacent to the Tornado Gallery, 1822 Buddy Holly Ave.

One goal we had with the website was to help promote our tremendous live music scene and the talent right here in West Texas. LubbockNightOut Radio will help us make this goal a reality.

LubbockNightOut Radio is a streaming radio station. You can pull it up and listen at work if you want to hear something new and fresh! Local bands can upload their music in mp3 format and we will add it to the playlist! This helps our bands get more exposure!

06/15/2012 - Local TV Show pilot in progress

Local independent television producers have reached an agreement to produce a television pilot featuring local Lubbock musician Talent. Impact productions in association with Multimedia Southwest have agreed to produce the 30 minute pilot. That pilot will be presented to local TV stations for an airing agreement. The concept is much like an Austin City Limits production, and will be taped at local Lubbock Venue, Brady's Great BBQ. Producers say that the owner of Brady's Great BBQ has gone to extreme measures to build the right stage for television production. A Spokesperson for the production companies expects to have the pilot completed in 4 weeks.

03/09/2012 - Texas Music Mourns The Loss of Legendary Bugs Henderson

According to the Dallas Morning News, Local blues guitar legend Bugs Henderson, the legendary blues-rocker died Thursday night from complications of liver cancer. He was 69. According to the article, Henderson's death at his home in Jefferson, Texas comes a mere four days after a huge benefit with a slew of well-known musicians was held at Palladium Ballroom to raise money for his medical expenses. Henderson had no health insurance and the cost of his care was mounting. Henderson did not attend that Palladium benefit because he was at home under hospice care. Bugs played with guitar icons such as B.B. King, Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Ted Nugent, Roy Buchanan, and James Burton. To this day, Bugs' guitar hangs in Hard Rock Cafe' in Dallas along side instruments donated by Lee Ritenouer and Chet Atkins. Bugs' signature sound begain to define itself during the 1970s with the blues. Quoting Bugs, "Blues was all that mattered to me; no other music was worth a damn." The Prairie Scholars are spending Thanksgiving in Lubbock with our lovely friends and families. We know after the festivities and after a few days of leftovers, we will all be wanting a bit of fresh air. You can help those in our community battling cancer by attending the 22nd Annual Cattle Baron's Ball. Set up at the V-8 ranch began Friday afternoon. This year the event includes a performance by Marty Stuart and Riverwind, gourmet southwestern cuisine and silent auctions. If you would like to attend the event, tickets are still available. One of Lubbock's young and rising musical talents, Tori Vasquez literally packed the house Friday night. She performed in one of a series of house concerts hosted by Paul Johnson and www.HubCityMusic.com. The living room setting specious enough for about 3 dozen people allowed for an intimate musical experience with the young vocalist accompanied by Mica Vasquez on guitar.
Tori Vasquez is the daughter of Lubbock's well known musical performer JR. Vasquez. Her unique talent and style has allowed her to be invited to song writing contests in New York and has had talks with a couple of record labels.

The Conorado High School class of 79 will be honoring Donny Allison for his contributions to Lubbock Music. The Presentation is scheduled for July 22, from 10 am to 1:00pm at the Buddy Holly Statue on 19th Street, accross from the Buddy Holly Center.

A short presentation honoring Allison will be held with a presentation to Don Caldwell and the Cactus Theatre, where Donnie often played. The ceremony will end with CHS representative Dana Rickerson Sparks, presenting a commemorative item created by fellow classmate, kyle Pettit.

All CHS exes are invited to attend as well as Allison's family, friends, and fans.

Lubbock's 4th of July Commemoration kicks off at the Lubbock County Courthouse Square with performances by live bands and street dancing.
Downtown streets including Broadway, Main and Texas ave will be blocked off for the July 3rd event. Gates open at 7:30 with performances by William Clark Green Band & Hat trick. Followed by the Casey Donahue Band.
$10 Tickets available at select- a- seat & gate. A food court will be available

The McDougal companies Parade kicks off the fourth of July festivities with a parade from Broadway to Ave Q to University Ave. 9:00 am to 11:00 am.

The Celebration Continues with the Wells Fargo Street Fair, and musical stages from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The UMC Early Settlers Luncheon takes place at Broadway Church of Christ 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

The Covenant Kids Area & College Baseball Hall of Fame Fanfest takes place at First Baptist Church - East Parking lot 11:00 to 5:30 pm.

Due to the ban on fireworks in Lubbock County, the plains Capital Evening Concert and Gandy's Fireworks Extravaganza are canceled for 2011 and will return in 2012.

The Original Caprock Cafe, the City's first smoking sports grill after a voted smoke ban, is going smoke-free July 5, according to an article in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal.
Due to its status as a bar and grill the 34th street location had been allowed to offer smoking even though it was a restaurant. Non- Smoking dining was offered during the lunch hours, now all ashtrays will be eliminated and the restaurant is going through a renovation process to remove any evidence of the past smoking.
The location at 82nd street and slide continues to be a completely smoke free environment.

Idalou native Josh Abbot came home and his enthusiasm and adrenaline was high as apple pie. The boisterous crowd was testimony to that. Various bands contributed by performing for the first ever JAB Fest at the Lone Star Amphitheater. The music continued till midnight. Other participants throughout the day were Hayes Carll, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Whiskey Myers, the William Clark Green Band, Charlie Schafter & The Gnomes and Daniel Markham.

LubbockNightOut.com has grown in the first year of existence. We started day one and had two visitors to the site. With some great people working hard and spreading the word, we have grown to have thousands of page views!

We pride ourselves on constantly keeping you informed of what is happening with Lubbock Nightlife. We also wanted to provide a one stop source for you to find restaurants, bars, bands, and events.

When we began building the site we couldn't believe how much there was to do in Lubbock! We have had some nights where there were literally 50 or 60 events going on. From live music, to the First Friday Art Trail, to Fourth on Broadway, we want to make sure it gets on our calendar.

Since the Buddy Holly era, Lubbock has been a meca of musical talent! We want LubbockNightOut.com to continue that tradition of developing West Texas artists!

There are two ways we are able to accomplish this. First, bands can build a profile to highlight their music. Once bands build their profile, which takes all of ten minutes, they can add their gigs to our event calendar. In their profile they can post pictures, links to external websites, and mp3 files of their songs.

Second, bands can upload their music to LubbockNightOut Radio! There is no cost to the bands at all! Once their music is uploaded we then add them to our playlists! LubbockNightOut Radio is part of a local feed that is apart of a nationwide group. Bands can get exposure both with local listeners and listeners from throughout the country.

When I moved to Lubbock two years ago I did not realize the treasure we have here. We have great venues that provide an awesome atmosphere to hear some great music. While living in New York City I was exposed to the live music scene. While New York has some great venues, few have the eclectic feel of Lubbock, Texas.
