Description:

The Funky Door is a collaborated creation that was brought to life by two men, artists with a passion for wine and food. Tony Wright and Alex B. Jones became colleagues while in the art industry and later integrated ideas on a partnership in the wine business. Tony's knowledge in wine and small business was the perfect blend to Alex's knowledge in architecture and design.

Jones and Wright were not satisfied with a mediocre array of food pairings to follow the wine, so they recruited Catherine Page, a successful and talented caterer to design the menu. Catherine put together an amazing team of chefs that all had various talents to compliment eachothers craft in the food industry.

After almost a year of planning and construction - The Funky Door opened its doors to the public on September 17, 2010.

The Funky Door is located in the River Crossing plaza at the corner of 82nd St. & Iola, set back from the street. The atmosphere is pleasing and intriguing at the same time - splashes of unique colors and art engulf the interior to bring the patrons into a surrounding unlike any other. Our menu is unique in almost every way and we strive to surprise every customer on what their palette might enjoy while trying their next glass of wine. The FD's wine expert, Derek Pirtle, will always be available for anyone with questions about wine typologies or even to just talk "shop" about our wine selection.

One of the most unique experiences we offer to our guest is the option to use our self-serve Italian made Enomatics. We offer a selection of 48 wines on these tasting machines that can be dispensed at the correct temperature directly to customers through the use of a microchip card. Every wine on the system can be dispensed in 1.5oz, 3oz, or 6oz pours - giving our guests the chance to taste as many wines as they like without having to look at a single menu.

Our goal is to help everyone experience the various types of wine from around the world and to never make anyone feel that you have to have a degree in enology to enjoy a great glass of wine.
